Friday, April 10th. We didn't have wifi yesterday so I will start with Thursday's blog.
Thursday, April 9th. From Agès to Burgos - 23 km. it was sunny with cloudy periods and only about 15 degrees. Agès was a great little village. We had a wonderful supper, garlic soup, ratatouille and eggs, bread, red wine, and of course, bread. The owners were awesome. We had a 10 people room just for us, very lucky. This morning, a little café was open so we stopped to have a bite: chocolate croissant for some and an egg tostadas for others. Of course Rémi had his café con leche, so famous here. We hit the road around 7:50 which was late for us. I had my bag shipped forward to San Juan de Ortega. We crossed farmland mostly today, until we got to the outskirts of Burgos, then it was industrial parks, and parks. Burgos has a population of 180,000 so compare to the small villages we pass, this was a huge metropolis. We stopped to get cash from a cash machine as we don't always have that luxury in the smaller places.
When we finally arrive, we are ready to take off our packs. I had to pick up my bag about 1 km away from the Albergue. We stayed at a new municipal Albergue, which has less facilities than private hostels. (Like no internet). After showering we headed out to visit. We walked up a good hill to get to the top of a castle. Unfortunately the castle is undergoing construction but we could get good pictures of the city from up there. Then it was the cathedral visit. This is an absolutely incredible church. We don't have the words to express what we saw there. It cost the pilgrims 3,50 Euros to take the tour. It was so worth it. We could have spent 2-3 hours there, but it is made of stone so we were getting cold. We then headed out for supper.
